Minutes, 19 January 2012

Call to Order was at 18:06, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for POWs and MIAs

Prayer.  Chaplain Jim Kelley offered the invocation.

President Bob Sperry asked vice president Gary Fink to run tonight’s meeting.

Roll Call.  All officers present.  Total attendance, including AVVA: 19 present.

Minutes.  Gary Fink called for approval of the minutes.
Motion: Rick Shuster moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Mike Miller (unanimous).

Treasurer’s Report.  Treasurer Bob Marshall presented the treasurer’s report.
Motion: John Sheets moved to accept the report, seconded by Greg Montalvo (unanimous).

Petty Cash Report.  Vice president Gary Fink presented the petty cash report.  Treasurer Bob Marshall told President Bob Sperry he needs to know when to replenish the petty cash fund.  Bob Sperry requested $300 to replenish the fund.

Standing Committee Reports.

President’s Report.  No president’s report.

Outreach Committee.  Jim Hanson stated he had nothing to report at this time.

Horticulture Committee.  Jim Hanson stated he had nothing to report at this time.

Chapter 388.  No report- no 388 members present.

Old Business.

Fernley Monument.  Rick Shuster reported the City of Fernley appears ready to move forward, and he will report when actual progress occurs.

Chapter Website.  Gary Fink reported the site is still up and running and is found at vvareno989.org.  Chapter 388 hasn’t responded on changing their web support.

Pot Luck Dinner.  The chapter recognized the efforts of Jim Hanson in bringing forth the successful December pot luck dinner.  Jim recognized the contributions, endorsed by the membership, of:

Tip a Vet.  Bob Marshall reported we finally got a check from Denny’s after he went to chase it down.

New Business.

Business Cards.  Gary Fink circulated 3 proofs for comment.

Storage Unit.  Bob Sperry addressed why we want to maintain a storage unit.  He reported David Billau donated $600 to the chapter to pay for the space for the next year.  He called for a proposal to pay for the unit.
Motion.  Greg Montalvo moved to pay a year’s rent, seconded by John Sheets (unanimous).

Outreach and Flag Cabinet.  Jim Hanson introduced this subject, reporting a need for a storage cabinet at the Dugout to store our outreach inventory and our flags.  Discussion of included building a cabinet or purchasing one.  A metal cabinet of sufficient size imported from Texas would cost $470.  A contractor known to one of the members stated he could build a custom cabinet for $220 including materials.
Motion.  John Sheets moved to engaged the contractor to build the cabinet, pending approval of the VFW, seconded by Jeff Gundersen (unanimous).

Fund Raising.  No report in the absence of Leon Gravelin.

Announcements.

Battle Born Days.  Tabled until next meeting.

Gold Star Wives for Northern Nevada.  Jim Hanson reported he forwarded the relevant email to Blue Star Mothers.

Birthdays.  Happy birthday to John Bell, Ron Coleman, Tom Hildebrand, Jim Kelley, Johnny Martinez, Ron Reinhardt, Kate Roman, Bob Sperry, and Troy Stormoen.
